The Life and Contributions of Thor Halvorssen

Thor Halvorssen is a renown champion for human rights and film production. He is the founder of Oslo Freedom Forum, an annual event where human rights activists, business leaders, and other leaders around the world converge to deliberate and share their experiences. The discussions involve strategies that can enhance human freedom, which is pivotal to the realization of full human potential. He also serves as the president and CEO of Human Rights Foundation, a non-profit organization he founded in the year 2005 with an agenda to protect and promote human rights across the globe.

Through his foundation, Thor Halvorssen works passionately towards achieving universal human rights freedom. Among the many films he has produced include: “Hammer & Tickle”, “Freedom’s Fury” (with a story that revolves around a dictatorship rebellion in Hungary), “The Singing Revolution”, “Indoctrinate U”, “The Sugar Babies”, “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress”, and many others. His brainchild, Oslo Freedom Forum has been described as a remarkable human rights festival. Thor similarly serves as the Human Rights Foundation’s president. This organization has distinguished itself for its devotion towards global human rights. Besides this, Thor is the Patron of the Children’s Peace Movement, a Czech-based organization. His father was nearly murdered by a dictatorial regime. Thor was on the forefront advocating for his father’s release. He has gained prominence in matters related to dictatorship, slavery, human trafficking, and threats to democracy.

The Human Rights Foundation

Thor founded the organization in 2004 with the objective of championing the true definition of human rights. The Human Rights Foundation was amalgamated in 2005, and has offices in New York. Its international council comprises well-known global human rights advocates including Harry Wu, Vladimir Bukovsky, and Elie Wiesel. HRF has consistently championed for the release of political prisoners who are behind bars on trampled up charges.

Thor’s Film Involvement

Mr. Halvorssen had a passion for film production from a young age. This has seen him produce award-winning films including Freedom’s Fury, Hammer and Tickle, Indoctrinate U, The Singing Revolution, 2081, and The Sugar Babies. Most of these films focus on the theme of political freedom. At the moment, Thor is involved in the production of a film adaptation of Robert Heinlein’s The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.
